March 6, 2021 - Ron Jon's Surf Shop
Today we drove up Highway A1A to the famous Ron Jon's Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach.
Ron Jon Surf Shop was founded in 1959 in Ship Bottom, New Jersey by Ron DiMenna. Ron Jon surf shop has 12 stores nationwide. Their flagship Cocoa Beach store is currently the largest surfing shop in the world.
My sister used to live just down the street, and we came here to Ron Jons during at least one of our visits. I don't remember anything like this though. They have really expanded, and have statues out front.
You have to like a store that has a Stearman hanging from the ceiling in the central atrium.
There were a lot of people in the store; Ron Jon's was doing a good business. Our family gave them some business too; I think everyone bought at least one thing. I bought a sweatshirt and party shirt.
A statue of Kelly Slater surfing up a big wave sits right out front. Kelly Slater -- best known for his unprecedented 11 world surfing championship wins -- is widely regarded as the greatest professional surfer of all time. He was born and grew up right here in Cocoa Beach.
